[Surat Al-Asr, Quran 103] Many of us have memorised this short and sweet surat as part of our ‘’getting serious’’ about salah. Inshaa Allah if we repeat it often enough, we can see it for the goldmine of knowledge that it is. One deep teaching this surat has to give is that learning is important. How important? A matter of life and death. Adapun kandungan Surah Al Asr Ayat 1 sampai 3 adalah: 1. Wal-'Asr (demi masa). Al Asr berarti waktu Ashar (sore). Bisa juga dimaknai menekan sesuatu atau memeras. Surah ini mengajarkan pentingnya memanfaatkan waktu untuk hal-hal positif. Betapa banyak waktu yang kita lalui tanpa ada peningkatan iman dan amal. Reciting a surah is recommended and is achieved by reciting some portion of the Qur’an, be it a single verse or more. Ramli expounded on this in his commentary on Imam Nawawi ‘ s Minhaj al-Talibin. ( Nihayat al-Muhtaj 1/491) This is for the imam and the person praying alone. As for one following an imam, he may be in one of two situations: The reward that results from reading Soorat al-Kahf on Friday is only mentioned for the one who reads the soorah on that day. The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on Friday, Allah will bestow upon him light between those two Fridays.” According to this Surah, people are divided into two definite groups: Those whose good deeds weigh heavy by the Divine Scales will rejoice in a pleasant life; and those whose good deeds weigh light will have the abyss as their abode.
